Summer 2021 : The dog days of summer

Visited and was visited by numerous dogs this past summer …. Sunny (pandemic puppy #1) Had the pleasure of observing Sunny get her first taste of salmon skin. Yummm! Riley (pandemic puppy #2) At the end of a hike in Nisene Marks State Park in Aptos, as we were getting in the car to leave, this Great Pyrenees came up to play with Riley. While chatting with the dogs owners, they noticed my Glacier National Park sweatshirt and asked if I had been to the park. “I live near the park in West Glacier”, I replied. “My mom lives in West Glacier!”, one of the owners said. Further conversation led to the discovery of the absolutely incredible coincidence that her mom not only lives around the corner from us, but is a good friend who Sandy plays cards with twice a week. We just happened to be at the right place & time in Aptos to encounter our neighbor’s daughter!! What a doggone coincidence! Jackie lives around the corner from us. The absolute nicest, friendliest dog. She frequently stops by on her daily walks. Hey, that’s not a dog! That’s Ollie, Nadine and Mo’s cat at his new home in Fairbanks this summer. Thistle, Sally’s dog. This is in Fairbanks, I think at the top of Murphy Dome. And yes, she is a stick dog! Mickey, who bike-jored (pulled the bike) when we went riding in Denali National Park. Sammy, one of the guests for Nadine and Mo’s wedding. Lucy (pandemic puppy #3), who I actually saw a few times this summer when in Seattle. Troy is a new neighbor who moved in recently, and is now twice as big as in this photo. Ruby is Dorothy’s dog, who has really good taste in people. Thistle and Beth in Fairbanks. Sadly no photos of Bran that were not blurred. Saving the best for last, we had Jasper stay with us for a night. Jasper (and owner) were on a road trip, moving from Fairbanks AK to San Diego CA. He was Thistle’s best buddy up in Alaska, and is sadly moving away. He is an adorable hoot of a dog!

It’s the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, and with the 4 inches of fresh snow that just fell, I’m very thankful for the outside beauty of the Last Best home ….. …. and the cozy comfort by the fire inside. May you have a Happy Thanksgiving at a special home this year.

Sitting in a bar the Scotsman says, "As good as this bar is, I still prefer the pubs back home. In Glasgow, there's a wee place called McTavish's. The landlord goes out of his way for the locals. When you buy four drinks, he'll buy the fifth drink." "Well, Angus," said the Englishman, "At my local in London , the Red Lion, the barman will buy you your third drink after you buy the first two." "Ahhh, dat's nothin'," said the Irishman, "back home in my favorite pub, the moment you set foot in the place, they'll buy you a drink, then another, all the drinks you like, actually. Then, when you've had enough drinks, they'll take you upstairs and see that you gets laid, all on the house!" The Englishman and Scotsman were suspicious of the claims. The Irishman swore every word was true. Then the Englishman asked, "Did this actually happen to you?" "Not meself, personally, no," admitted the Irishman, "but it did happen to me sister quite a few times."

A man was dining alone in a fancy restaurant and there was a gorgeous redhead sitting at the next table. He had been checking her out since he sat down, but lacked the nerve to talk with her. Suddenly she sneezed, and her glass eye came flying out of its socket towards the man. He reflexively reached out, grabbed it out of the air, and handed it back. 'Oh my, I am so sorry,' the woman said, as she popped her eye back in place. 'Let me buy your dinner to make it up to you.' They enjoyed a wonderful dinner together, and afterwards they went to the theatre followed by drinks.. They talked, they laughed, she shared her deepest dreams and he shared his. She listened to him with interest. After paying for everything, she asked him if he would like to come to her place for a nightcap and stay for breakfast. They had a wonderful, wonderful time. The next morning, she cooked a gourmet meal with all the trimmings. The guy was amazed. Everything had been so incredible! 'You know,' he said, 'you are the perfect woman. Are you this nice to every guy you meet?' 'No,' she replies. You're just the first man who happened to catch my eye.

A woman tries getting on a bus, but realizes her skirt is too tight. As the bus stopped and it was her turn to get on, she became aware that her skirt was too tight to allow her leg to come up to the height of the first step of the bus. Slightly embarrassed and with a quick smile to the driver, she reached behind her to unzip her skirt a little, thinking that this would give her enough slack to raise her leg. She tried to take the step, but only to discover that she couldn't. With a little smile to the driver, she again reached behind to unzip a little more and again was unable to take the step. After becoming quite frustrated and embarrassed, she once again attempted to unzip her skirt more in order to allow more leg room to get on the first step of the bus. About this time, a large Texan who was standing behind her picked her up easily by the waist and placed her gently on the step of the bus. She went ballistic and turned to the would-be Samaritan and yelled "How dare you touch my body! I don't even know who you are!" The Texan smiled and drawled "Well ma'am, normally I would agree with you but after you unzipped my fly three times I kinda figured we were friends.

A group of Canadians were traveling by tour bus through Holland. As they stopped at a cheese farm, a young guide led them through the process of cheese making, explaining that goat’s milk was used. She showed the group a lively hillside where many goats were grazing. "These," she explained, "are the older goats put out to pasture when they no longer produce." She then asked, "What do you do in Canada with your old goats?" A spry old gentleman answered, "We get sent on bus tours!"
